Formigal, ski-in ski-out

The Formigal resort is built for skiing. From many buildings you walk out in your boots to the lifts and do not need the car all day. It is the most convenient option for families with children, groups of friends and anyone who wants to make the most of the day. It is also where the après-ski scene is once the slopes close.

It is a modern place of apartment blocks, without the charm of a mountain village, and very quiet out of season.

Sallent de Gállego

A few kilometres down the valley, Sallent is a village of stone and slate roofs, with its Gothic church and the bridge over the river Gállego. It has bakeries, bars and traditional restaurants, and a more authentic feel than the resort. It is a good base if you want to ski at Formigal and sleep in a village, or if you come in summer to hike.

El Pueyo, Escarrilla and Tramacastilla

These villages at the bottom of the Tena valley, beside the Lanuza reservoir and the road to Biescas, tend to have cheaper accommodation. They are halfway between Formigal and Panticosa, so you can alternate between the two resorts. They suit travellers with a car looking for calm, with the drawback of driving and parking every morning.

Panticosa

Panticosa has its own ski resort, smaller and family-friendly, with lifts leaving from the village itself. It is a good alternative if you ski with children or are a beginner. The village has steep streets and plenty of life in winter. Further up the road is the spa, surrounded by peaks and the starting point for mountain routes. In summer the area fills with hikers.
