Where to stay in Panticosa: the best areas

Panticosa village

The village of Panticosa has almost everything you need for a break in the valley: restaurants, bakeries, outdoor gear shops and the gondola up to the slopes. In winter you can leave the house with your boots on and be skiing in no time. In summer the same village is the starting point for walks along the Caldarés and routes on the surrounding slopes. It is also where you will find the most going on at night, with bars and terraces in the central streets.

El Pueyo de Jaca

Next to Panticosa, at the entrance to the valley, El Pueyo de Jaca is smaller and quieter. It overlooks the Búbal reservoir and sits by the main Tena valley road, so from here you head straight to Biescas or Sallent. It suits families and anyone who prefers a peaceful village while keeping services a stroll away.

Best-rated in this area: Aparthotel Peña Telera Resort, with a score of 8.5 from 946 reviews.

Balneario de Panticosa

At the end of the road, in a glacial cirque at over 1,600 metres, is the spa complex. There is no village as such here: just thermal waters, a small lake and mountains on every side. It is the place for anyone coming to rest or to bag a summit. The trails to Bachimaña, the Brazato and the Casa de Piedra refuge start here. For dinner or shopping you will need to drive down.

Sallent de Gállego and Formigal

At the head of the valley, Sallent de Gállego keeps a stone old town with a medieval bridge and views of the Peña Foratata. Next to it is the Lanuza reservoir. A little higher up, the Formigal resort lives around its ski area, with apartments, après-ski bars and plenty of buzz in season. If you want to try both of the valley’s ski resorts on the same trip, this area puts you in the middle.
