Where to stay in Biescas: the best areas

Biescas, on both banks of the Gállego

The river Gállego splits Biescas in two, and bridges link both halves of the old village. This is where the shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants are, making it the most complete base for a longer stay. The church of San Salvador and riverside walks are close by. From the village the road climbs the Tena valley towards Panticosa, Sallent de Gállego and Formigal, with the Portalet pass at the end.

Towards Santa Elena

To the north, where the valley narrows, are the Santa Elena hermitage, its dolmen and the remains of the fort of the same name. Staying at the northern edge of the village brings you closer to the ski slopes in winter and the Tena valley mountain trails in summer, with less traffic in the morning. It is the natural choice for skiers who prefer a village feel to the resorts.

Gavín and the Cotefablo road

A few kilometres away, Gavín is a small hamlet at the foot of the road that crosses the Cotefablo pass towards Broto and the Ordesa valley. Very close by is the hermitage of San Bartolomé, one of the Serrablo churches, with its stone tower. It suits you if you want to combine the Tena valley with trips to Ordesa and prefer to sleep somewhere very quiet.

Best-rated in this area: Apartamentos Lausan, with a score of 8.6 from 732 reviews.

Oliván, Orós and the Serrablo

Heading down towards Sabiñánigo you come across tiny villages such as Oliván and Orós Bajo, with Romanesque Serrablo churches with slender towers and twin windows. The rural cottages here suit travellers with a car who enjoy Romanesque art and want silence. Jaca and Sabiñánigo, with more services and shops, are a short drive away.
