A lovely courtyard location - central but peaceful

Liked: I live in Basel. I stayed 4 nights in this hotel to get away from construction noise near my apartment. The single/solo room is simply furnished, but a good size with a very comfy double bed. The room and bathroom were spotless and cleaned very well each day. This isn't a negative for me, but the room has no tea/coffee facilities or TV. There is a "lounge" area nearby which has those (open 24x7), and the in-room WiFi is fast enough for streaming video/music. Breakfast buffet was tasty and attentive staff keep it fully stocked and serve tea/coffee and eggs as you want. The building complex was a monastery, then a woman's prison, and now a hotel. There's also a part of the Historisches Museum Basel next door, which houses musical instruments. I didn't eat dinner there, but the brasserie in the courtyard was full every night, so booking is recommended. The location is a 2 minute walk down to Barfüsserplatz (and a 5 minute walk back, as it's up hill!). Highly recommended for the price. All the staff were friendly and multilingual.
