  Friendly welcome and a pleasant stay

  Liked: Clean accomodation with friendly hosts, decent facilities including mini fridge in the room and reasonably priced bar (and DJ) on ground floor open at weekends. Comfortable bed.

  Brutal

  Liked: Helpful telephone instructions from the station.

  Disliked: We arrived in the throes of storm Boelo, drenched to the skin and freezing cold, only to find our room to be completely devoid of heat. On asking for the radiator to be turned on, we were told it was on an inflexible timer and would therefore be emitting no heat until six-thirty. It was just after five! There ensued several attempts to get warm: we made a hot drink, shivered into the bed – even found an iron to press our jeans dry. The heating eventually began to filter through, but it was an old radiator and totally inadequate. My partner has COPD. It was clear he’d be in difficulties if we stayed much longer so we felt we had no choice but to book another hotel and check out. On asking for a partial refund, we received no empathy, apology, or assistance from mine host. Though we did get an petulant: “Give me the keys back and I’ll give you a full refund.” Then … nothing. The reply to my request a few days later that he make good on his promise, was equally without charm or empathy. Everything, it seemed, was our fault and he was going to refund nothing. We were told that since we used the bed, so wet, apparently it had to be completely stripped down and dried (a comment that oddly might have borne out the extremity of our situation had our wet clothes not been under the iron at the time), made ourselves a coffee and used a towel – we had forfeited our right to any refund. We also, apparently, should have stated at the time of booking that my partner had COPD. This is nonsense. Medical disclosures are not part of the terms and conditions of Booking.com. So … yeah. I’d avoid this one.

  Great experience

  Liked: Really friendly owners nothing was too much trouble. The bed was super comfy the room really clean and a really good size. Nice touch were the fridges in the room. Actually tried to book again when we were there.
