Good
Liked: The hostel is really cosy. The common living area is really nice with lots of books and a wonderful view.
Disliked: The hostel is at the top of a hill, I didn't mind but could be good to know for people travelling with reduced mobility or lots of luggage. There is a parking area too.
Liked: Friendly staff, good location
Disliked: Nothing
Cozy hostel and close to many attractions
Liked: This hostel has a very homey feel to it, with a fireplace in the common area making it very cozy. It's very organized and the staff is respectful.
Disliked: It is older so there's not many plugs in the rooms. There also isn't much parking but they're working with the property as is.
Good location
Liked: Great location and lounge area. Clean kitchen and bathroom.
Disliked: The rooms had no place for bag storage, however we did arrive late and left early so this maybe didn't help? People also kept hiking boots in the room so it smelt really bad all night which was rough...maybe a boots of at the door rule?
Disappointing hostel that needs a refresh and renovation
Liked: The sttaff were very helpful and very friendly here. The location was close to town and nice and quiet. Meeting other travellers was good, especially in the fully equiped kitchen that provided tea, coffee and milk.
Disliked: This hostel badly needs a renovation and some money spent on it. There was a lack of secure lockers, or cages to store your bag, which most hostels have these days. They also lacked individual lights, a small shelf and charging ports for each bed, again which most, if not all hostels now provide. This resulted in a a mish mash of dangerous cables, extension cords and plugs in the middle of the room. Not safe at all. There needed to be more hooks for hanging coats, towels etc in each room, as the floor in a 10 person dorm gets pretty messy very quickly. The only bathroom was mixed, was small and needed more hooks and a shelf in each of the shower cubicles, to make showering easier, otherwise everything got wet. Disappointing but I guess, you get when you pay for, but I’d rather pay just a bit more and have slightly better, more modern facilities.
Bed bugs
Disliked: I’m not fussy about hostels but the mattress and sheet were dismal, and the overhead light so dim it was hard to see anything in the room. Stayed there against my better judgment (REALLY dumb of me, there were even a couple of small bloodstains on the mattress) and woke up covered in bed bug bites. The room is carpeted so the chances of them spreading are extremely high. Canceled my plans to spend my last day in Scotland at the laundromat, and even now I’m anxiously monitoring to make sure I didn’t bring anything with me. Ruined the trip and they haven’t responded about a refund.
