  A beautiful, elegantly Shakespeare themed hotel, offering old world charm and up-to-date comfort

  Liked: This is a beautiful hotel and pub/restaurant that has all the character of a very old building and combines this with modern amenities and contemporary flair. As you would expect in place called The White Swan, there are plenty and well-chosen references to William Shakespeare, diligently deployed and aesthetically rendered to invoke his genius without making them overbearing. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and the generously portioned breakfast was excellent. I have no hesitation recommending this place to anyone visiting Stratford-upon-Avon: you are in the centre, just a few minutes' walk from everywhere that matters, including The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare's Birthplace, and Shakespeare's Schoolroom (which I particularly suggest you add to your itinerary if you weren't thinking of doing so anyway).

  Disliked: It's hard to find fault, but in all – and quite stringent – honesty, the dinner we had in the restaurant was perhaps just a tad below the level the rest of the experience would lead one to expect. It was good, the portions were honest, the price defensible, but my dish came with an unannounced substitute vegetable accompaniment, and my partner, having to go for second choice on the menu because the first one wasn't available – we were first to take our seats at table, pre-theatre – found the meal to be a little mediocre, shall we say. Expect pub food, more than fine dining, is how one might put it...

Good to know

We do not have our own car park; the closest car parks we can recommend are the following:

Windsor Street Surface Car Park - £14.00 for 24 hours, Postcode: CV37 6NL. Just off Windsor Street on the left side opposite HR Coffee shop. This is directly behind the hotel.

Grove House Car Park - £7.00 for 24 hours, Postcode: CV37 6LE. Located on Greenhill Street immediately before Foster Frame Gallery. This is a 2–4-minute walk from the hotel.

All car parks are CARD ONLY and are pay and display
