A lovely three day break in Ghent

Liked: The breakfast selection was plentiful and well presented very good choice and lots of coffee machines. The location of the hotel was excellent with masses of good restaurants nearby.

Disliked: Our room was cold on arrival and took some time to warm up.

Liked: The hotel is right in the city centre, within walking distance of all the main places, which is extremely convenient. There is a Delhaize grocery store a few doors down, which is easy to reach. The staff were very friendly, and the room was tidied up every day, with fresh towels provided. The room had an umbrella, which was a godsend, as there were a few days of heavy rain.

Disliked: The pillows on the bed were lumpy and of terrible quality. There was a backup pair that was slightly better, but still not great. I felt quite underwhelmed with the room. The in-room capsule coffee machine is not great quality. The little side mirror in the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in a while and had hairs on it. It was cleaned when I left a note. There were a few cobwebs. I also had mosquitoes in the room, which were impossible to get with the high ceilings and extremely dim lighting, which you can't turn up to make it brighter. The heater/air conditioner is very noisy. I found it a very underwhelming experience, especially seeing this is part of Hotel de Flandres. Check in staff wasn't particularly friendly and I had no idea reception was across the road so I had to back track. A sign at the door might actually be handy looking at other's reviews. I didn't pay full price for my stay because of the Genius discount offered by Booking.com, but since the usual price is €200/night, you can get a better hotel in a similar location for that.

Disliked: The way the light was set up in the room, There was no light next to the mirror, so it was difficult to see while getting ready in the morning.

Fantastic hotel in a lovely area. Highly recommend

Liked: It is a modern block, which was lovely and clean with an amazing shower. The room had everything you needed including safe, fridge ironing board and coffee machine & kettle. Highly recommend staying at this property. Breakfast was brilliant with lots of choice. We did have to go down the road for breakfast at main hotel, but only 2 minutes walk. Everyone was very helpful and friendly.

Disliked: The room was on the cool side so needed the heating on high. The room didn’t have any carpet so made it feel cooler as well. This was due to style of hotel which was very modern. The bathroom was off the main room without a door. We could only get 1 English language channel on tv. The lighting was very low. These are really small points which didn’t suit us. But would definitely stay again.

City Garden Linked to hotel has potential. We would book again, but would ensure not on ground floor

Liked: Was assigned to the Family apartment on the first floor, although that isn’t what we booked, and we weren’t asked if that was acceptable. Yes, it was large and spacious, but not needed by us. The room had a nice bathtub which was great. The breakfast buffet was in the main hotel across the road and was excellent. The staff in the breakfast room were excellent.

Disliked: The ground floor Business/Family apartment was not clean to the standard expected for either business, or holidayers. The towel rack was filthy. We cleaned it. The coffee table had a surrounding groove which just captured dirt. One of the curtains was broken and sitting in the corner. The center curtain was jammed. The light curtains on one window was falling away. Some work and maintenance of standards is needed. We really didn’t like being on the first level right on the street for security and privacy reasons.
