Fabulous
Liked: Cleanest hotel I've stayed in
It’s fine. It’s a hotel
Liked: Good sized room. Everything worked. Heating was pleasant and not annoying. Nice view.
Disliked: The parking charge was a surprise (buried at the bottom of the facilities list and not apparent on the top of the listing that just said Parking available). Some leisure club members really don’t like to share with hotel guests and made a hostile environment.
Good location for sight-seeing
Liked: Location was lovely - on bank of river Wear and a pleasant walk to Cathedral & Market. Journey to / from train station is about 15 minutes walk and hilly, which is hard work when carrying bags. Room was a good size and very comfortable, and breakfast had a great selection.

A good stay overall but a puzzling arrangement for parking
Liked: The location of the rooms was helpful because one of my daughters has mobility issues The staff were very welcoming and helpful We enjoyed the breakfast service in the bar
Disliked: The 'first come first served' parking policy made me apprehensive due to the mobility issue above and the need for a disabled parking spot. On arrival, I was shown the machine for paying in advance for two days parking (which I had wanted to do on line) that worked very well as we were back and forth with a funeral in Brancepeth and picking up family members from the train station. Why could this not have been done in advance? The dinner service on both evenings was very slow, for example, the wine was delivered after the meal started on both evenings.
