Liked: It was value for money on booking.com. But wouldn't have wanted to pay full price.

Disliked: The rooms were very very tired, wallpaper hanging off.Furniture out of the ark.Generally run down.A lovely old hotel really that needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to standard. Also had a meal in the restaurant it wasn't the best wouldn't have booked it had we known the quality of the food.Having said that the breakfast was good

Nice place but can be noisy in the bedrooms

Liked: It is a lovely building and the room was very comfortable.

Disliked: NOISE. The walls were so thin that the two females in the next room kept me awake for hours chatting in the next room. It felt like they were in my room and they weren’t talking loudly.

Liked: Have stayed at the cairn a few times. Great location, warm, comfortable and the bonus of free parking.

Disliked: The hotel is a little dated and I understand that if it was up to the minute flashy it would not be so reasonably priced. However the superior twin room I was given was the most offensive room I have ever been in. (Room 132). Mismatched, dingy, draughty, peeling wallpaper, grotty bathroom, need I say more. To even class that as a superior room was a disgrace. We did however ask to be moved which was done immediately, to another superior twin which was 100 times better. How can this happen.??? There should surely be some kind of format that all rooms of the same category follow, it can't be that hard. Maybe these bad rooms need to be looked into, even a lick of paint would help to minimise the yellowing gloss paint.

Great breakfast and staff made up for disappointment in cleanliness/dustiness

Liked: Great location. Fantastic building. Great breakfast. Friendly & helpful staff. Easy parking. Well priced. The reception and bar area has some magnificent old features.

Disliked: There is a musty/damp smell throughout. The lift was out of action throughout our 1 night stay but we were told this was being repaired. Although the decor is outdated and in need of decoration that is not an excuse for it being unclean.

Liked: It is an old curious grand hotel

Disliked: The wifi, both Cairn and Cairn Premium were awful. Even downstairs in the bar I struggled to retain a signal. In my bedroom, it was non existent. But I couldnt get 4G either. There was barely phone reception. Ispoke to other guests who had same difficulty. For me to stay here again, on bidiness, this would need to he addressed. Staff in bar friendly. Staff at breakfast sullen.

Beautiful old, very clean building, with plenty of free parking and in walking distance of centre

Liked: Great location with plenty of parking. Beautiful, traditional building. Very clean throughout. Second room offered was very spacious and private.

Disliked: Not all staff were friendly. First room given was very small and with large windows and no nets/blinds, we felt on show to the car park.
