What is Monastiraki?
It is the flea market square of Athens, next to Hadrianβs Library and an Ottoman mosque, with the Acropolis above. Shopping streets, rooftop bars and the nightlife district of Psyrri branch off from here.
Getting around from here
The Ancient Agora, Plaka and the Acropolis are under ten minutes on foot. The metro on the square runs straight to Piraeus and the airport.
When the hotels fill up
It is busy all year, but from May to September the rooftops with views fill up and prices rise. At weekends the flea market draws big crowds.
Which area to choose
Around the square it is noisy until late. Towards Thissio and the Agora it is quieter, and Psyrri is the bar district.
