Where to stay in Faro: the best areas

Centre and marina

Between the marina, the Manuel Bivar garden and the pedestrian Rua de Santo AntΓ³nio is the liveliest part of Faro. There are hotels, terraces and shops, and the train and bus stations are a short walk away.

Boats to the lagoon leave from the docks next to the Vila Adentro.

Vila Adentro

Inside the walls, the old town is quiet and has few places to stay, in restored houses around the cathedral. In the evening there is hardly anyone about.

Praia de Faro

Faro beach is on a sand island linked by a bridge, next to the airport. It has restaurants and a few places to stay facing the sea, with the lagoon on one side and the Atlantic on the other. You hear planes now and then.

Inland: Estoi and Santa BΓ‘rbara de Nexe

A few kilometres away, the villages of Estoi, with its palace and the Roman ruins of Milreu, and Santa BΓ‘rbara de Nexe have quintas, country houses and hotels with pools among carob and orange trees. For travelling by car.
