If you are looking for a lovely London getaway, keep walking and do not look back

Liked: To be completely fair, the location was decent enough, and the bed actually offered an okay night’s sleep, but that is strictly where the compliments begin and end.

Disliked: I’ve heard of hotels leaning into a floral motif, but Hotel Lily takes its branding to an absolute, unhinged extreme. A real, living lily is vibrant, elegant, and brings life to a room. Hotel Lily, however, is the exact architectural equivalent of a dead lily flower: brown, slumping pathetically in a forgotten vase of slimy, stagnant water, emitting a faint aura of regret, and long past the point where it should have been scraped into the compost bin. My girlfriend ellie and I checked in hoping for a pleasant London stay. The second the sun comes up and you open your eyes, the illusion shatters, and you realize you are staying inside an active hospitality crime scene. The bathroom situation alone was enough to make a health inspector weep into their clipboard. We walked in to find wall-to-wall mould thriving so aggressively it felt like it should have been paying its own council tax. But thankfully, the universe provided a built-in safety feature: there was no plug for the bathtub. That’s right, taking a bath was entirely impossible, which was honestly a massive relief considering that immersing ourselves in that room’s biohazardous microclimate might have mutated us into comic book villains. To make matters worse, basic amenities like shower gel or shampoo were completely absent. Apparently, Hotel Lily operates on a strict policy of making guests wash themselves with pure willpower and warm thoughts. When we ventured down to ask the front desk for an extra pillow and a couple of spare towels, the staff looked at us like we’d just demanded the Crown Jewels. We were flatly informed that there were none left in the entire building. A whole hotel, and not a single spare piece of cotton exists on the premises? Was there a sudden crisis in London’s linen supply chain, or did they just not care? But wait, the grand finale of our stay was the single solitary towel we were actually provided. It came pre-decorated with a prominent, terrifying brown stain.
