Where to stay in Nantes: the best areas

Bouffay and the castle

The old town has small hotels and apartments in half-timbered houses and stone buildings. The castle, the cathedral and the Bouffay restaurants are on the doorstep, although on weekend nights the streets are lively.

Graslin and Commerce

Around Place Graslin, Place Royale and the Passage Pommeraye are the grandest hotels in the centre, in 18th and 19th-century buildings. It is the area of shops and theatres, with the tram at Place du Commerce and the Loire close by.

Station and Jardin des Plantes

By Nantes station there are chain and moderately priced hotels, practical if you arrive by train or are making day trips. The Jardin des Plantes is opposite and the castle ten minutes’ walk away.
