Staying near Kamari: what you need to know

What is Kamari?

It is the beach village on Santorini’s east coast, with a long beach of black sand and pebbles and a seafront of restaurants, below the mountain topped by the ruins of Ancient Thira.

Getting around from here

Fira is 20 minutes by bus and the airport ten by car. A path climbs from the village to Ancient Thira, and in summer there are boats to Perissa.

When the hotels fill up

It fills up in July and August, though it is still much cheaper than the caldera. Spring and autumn bring plenty of deals.

Which area to choose

On the promenade you sleep facing the sea with everything nearby. A few streets back there are quieter, cheaper hotels with pools.

If you’d rather be in the old town, see the hotels in Santorini city centre or our guide to the best areas to stay in Santorini.
