Staying near Imerovigli: what you need to know
What is Imerovigli?
It is the highest village on the caldera rim, 2 km north of Fira, known as the balcony of the Aegean. In front of it is Skaros Rock, once topped by a Venetian castle, and cave houses with pools facing the volcano.
Getting around from here
The caldera path links Imerovigli with Firostefani and Fira to the south and with Oia to the north, in about three hours. Buses to Oia, Fira and the airport stop on the main road above.
When the hotels fill up
From June to September the hotels with views are booked months ahead. April, May and October have more availability and lower prices.
Which area to choose
On the caldera edge are the luxury hotels and suites with pools, with plenty of steps. Behind the main road there are cheaper options, five minutes from the views.
