What to see in Lazise

Must-sees

Lazise is on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, between Bardolino and Peschiera, and keeps its medieval walled enclosure almost intact, with towers and gates you walk through. Inside, the streets are flat and quiet, with small squares and colourful houses. The Scaliger Castle, surrounded by a park, can only be seen from outside, as it is privately owned. Down by the lake, the small harbour is the heart of the village.

In the old harbour stand the former Venetian Customs House, a medieval building with large arches that served as a base for the lake fleet, and the small Romanesque church of San Nicolò. The lakeside path invites you to walk or cycle to Bardolino. Around the village are the vineyards of the Bardolino hills, a spa in the hamlet of Colà and, a few kilometres away, the Gardaland theme park.

Free tours and guided visits

Lazise has no regular free walking tours. What is on offer are activities linked to the countryside and wine: e-bike or horseback rides among the vineyards with a tasting, visits to a biodynamic farm and even an open-air painting workshop. Day trips to the Dolomites also leave from here, and in summer you can book tickets for the opera at the Verona Arena.

How long to spend

The walled village and the harbour can be seen in two or three hours. If you add a vineyard activity or a bike ride along the shore to Bardolino, allow a day. With two or three days you can combine it with Verona, under an hour away by car, Sirmione or a day at the spa.

Where to stay

Staying inside the walls is the nicest option, in small hotels and apartments a few steps from the harbour. On the lakeshore and on the outskirts there are campsites and resorts with pools, very much geared to families. If you are driving, bear in mind that the centre is pedestrianised and parking fills up early in summer.
