  The perfect family gathering retreat… everyone loved it and want to return

  Lovely house, stunning views, wrong fit for us

  Liked: The house was very clean, quirky, and has a lovely family history behind it. The owners were helpful, flexible and understanding throughout. Sadly it just wasn't right for us. We booked 7 nights and left after 2, which was our own fault. We should have read the description properly and checked the location on Google Maps first. We were two families travelling together, with small children and older relatives, some with limited mobility, and the steep stairs both inside and outside the house were a real struggle for them. Being new to Portugal, we also hadn't appreciated how mountainous it is. Driving to the shops or the beach turned into more of a chore than you want on holiday. That said, the location is good for exploring and the mountain views are amazing. None of this is anything the owners can change. It's an old house with its own character and it will suit plenty of people, just not our group and the goal of our trip. They refunded us for the nights we didn't stay, with no fuss at all, which we really appreciated!

  Disliked: Access to the room in the attic and the bed. Also, the pool is more of a plunge pool.

  Liked: Fabulous! House pics are true to life. So relaxing. Tens mins drive north is a little town with a good shop. Highly rate the “little wine and tapas” restaurant there. See photo:) We had a blast at the local water park - take an umbrella if you have one as you lay your towels out on grass. If you don’t have one, only £5 to hire one but they aren’t great so worth taking if you have one.

  Disliked: Be aware house on a corner and cars don’t slow down so glad I was with an adult to help get the car out of the drive. It wouldn’t stop me booking - just flagging it. The glass in the basement door needs replacing as cracked.
