What is La Barceloneta?

La Barceloneta is the old fishermen’s quarter laid out in the 18th century between the port and the sea, with narrow, straight streets and low buildings. Today it is above all Barcelona’s best-known beach, with its seafront promenade, beach bars and the rice and fish restaurants of Port Vell.

How to get there

Barceloneta (line 4) is at the entrance to the neighbourhood, by Port Vell, and Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica (also line 4) is on the other side. From Las Ramblas and El Born it is about a fifteen-minute walk, and the port cable car links the beach with Montjuïc.

When rooms are hardest to find

From June to September, when the beach is packed, and above all on the night of Sant Joan, 23 June, celebrated with parties on the sand. Outside summer there is far more availability and better prices.

Which area to choose

Inside the neighbourhood there are few hotels and many apartments. Around it there is more choice: Port Vell and El Born, a step from the old town, and the Vila Olímpica, with big seafront hotels. This page looks up to 800 metres from the middle of the neighbourhood.
