What is the Sanctuary of Lourdes?

It is one of the world’s great pilgrimage centres, with the Grotto of Massabielle, where according to tradition the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette in 1858, the basilicas and the baths. It lies beside the Gave river, at the foot of the Pyrenees.

Getting there

Lourdes station has trains from Toulouse, Bordeaux and Paris. Tarbes-Lourdes airport is about 15 minutes away by car.
