How to choose a hotel with a pool

Outdoor, indoor or on the rooftop

An outdoor pool can only be enjoyed in good weather, and many only open in season, from May or June to September. Indoor and heated pools work all year round, and rooftop pools are common in city hotels, often small and with views.

What to check before booking

If you are travelling outside summer, check the pool’s opening dates. See whether there are enough sun loungers, whether there is a children’s area and whether the pool is adults-only at certain times. In city hotels, a rooftop pool may have limited capacity.
