Where to stay in the Aragonese Pyrenees
What the Aragonese Pyrenees are like
The Aragonese Pyrenees are the north of Huesca, with Aneto, the highest peak in the Pyrenees, the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park and ski resorts such as Formigal, Candanchú, Astún, Panticosa and Cerler.
Which town to choose
Jaca is the best-connected base, with an old town, a citadel and places to stay all year round. Torla is the gateway to Ordesa, Aínsa and Bielsa are in Sobrarbe, and Benasque, in the highest valley, is for skiing and mountains. Formigal, Panticosa and Biescas are in the Tena valley, and Ansó, in the western valleys, is the quietest.
When to go
The ski season runs from December to April, with long weekends and Easter as the most expensive dates. In summer, from July to September, Ordesa and Benasque fill with hikers.
Getting around
From Zaragoza to Jaca or Aínsa it’s about two hours by road. There are few buses between the valleys, so a car is the most practical. In summer, car access to the Ordesa meadow is restricted and you go in by bus from Torla.
