Where to stay in Bielsa: the best areas

Bielsa village

The village huddles where the Cinca and Barrosa meet, around the square with the arcaded town hall. It has the restaurants, food shops and basic services for the whole valley. If you want to walk to dinner and head off on a different route each day, it is the most convenient choice. It is also the liveliest place in winter, when the rest of the valley is very quiet.

From here you drive up to the head of Pineta and also reach the tunnel into France.

Pineta valley

The road follows the Cinca up to the head of the valley, beneath the walls of the Monte Perdido massif, inside the national park. Along the valley there are isolated places to stay, a campsite and the Pineta chapel at the end. Sleeping here lets you start walking towards La Larri or the Balcón de Pineta from the door and wake up facing the waterfalls. There are almost no services: bring your shopping.

Javierre and Espierba

On the way between Bielsa and Pineta, these two small hamlets have stone houses, some rural accommodation and views over the valley. It is a halfway option: quieter than the village and less isolated than the head of the valley. Espierba sits high up, on a narrow road. It suits families spending several days in the valley who want a garden or terrace.

Best-rated in this area: HOTEL MONTE PERDIDO, with a score of 8.9 from 1,198 reviews.

Parzán and the Barrosa valley

Following the road towards the tunnel you come to Parzán, the last village before it. From here you walk into the Barrosa valley, with remains of old mines and a glacial cirque at the end. It suits mountaineers looking for routes less busy than Pineta and those wanting to cross to the French valleys. In winter, check the tunnel’s status before setting off.
