Old town

Up inside the walls, the places to stay are restored stone houses and small guesthouses. You have the Plaza Mayor, the castle and the church of Santa María around the corner, and at night you dine under the arcades with no cars around. It is best to leave the car in the car parks outside. It is the best option for couples who want to see the town at leisure, without the groups that arrive mid-morning.

Best-rated in this area: Apartamentos Dos Ríos Ainsa, with a score of 9.2 from 1,954 reviews.

Lower Aínsa

Modern Aínsa spreads across the flat land by the junction of the roads to Bielsa, Barbastro and Boltaña. Here are the supermarkets, petrol stations, outdoor shops and most of the apartments. It is the most convenient if you are travelling as a family, doing adventure activities or setting off early each morning for Ordesa. You walk up to the old town by a short slope.

Boltaña

A few kilometres west, along the road following the river Ara, Boltaña has its own old quarter on the hillside, with the collegiate church of San Pedro, and a lower part with services. It is a little closer to Torla and the main entrance to Ordesa, and is usually less busy than Aínsa. It has enough shops, bars and restaurants not to depend on its neighbour, and its old part, up the hill, is reached on foot from the centre.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Boltaña Ordesa, with a score of 9.6 from 3,158 reviews.

Labuerda and the Bielsa road

To the north, following the Cinca, Labuerda and other valley hamlets have rural houses and campsites surrounded by meadows. You are on the way to Escalona, where the road into the Añisclo canyon starts, and to Bielsa and the Pineta valley. It is the area for those seeking calm, dark night skies and mountains close by. For dinner or shopping, people usually head to Aínsa.

Best-rated in this area: HOTEL Restaurante TurMo, with a score of 8.9 from 1,561 reviews.
