Where to stay in Logroño: the best areas

Old town and Calle Laurel

The old town holds what almost everyone comes to see. Calle Laurel and Calle San Juan have dozens of bars, each with its own signature pincho, and a few steps away are the co-cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda, the church of Santiago and the San Blas market. Pilgrims enter over the Stone Bridge and follow the Rúa Vieja, with fountains and hostels.

The atmosphere lasts until late, especially from Thursday to Saturday. The streets by the Revellín wall are usually calmer.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Sercotel Portales, with a score of 8.8 from 5,805 reviews.

El Espolón and the centre

The Paseo del Espolón separates the old town from the modern centre. Around it are Calle Portales, with its arcades and shops, and Gran Vía, Logroño’s main shopping street. It is a flat, well-kept area, comfortable if you are travelling with children or older people, and from here you walk down to the pincho bars without sleeping on top of the noise. In the morning the Espolón fills with people strolling or having coffee under the plane trees.

Around the station

South of the centre, the train and bus stations share a site, and a large park has been opened over the buried tracks. The surrounding neighbourhoods are residential, with wide streets and easier parking. It suits anyone arriving on an early-morning train or wanting to set off early for Haro, Laguardia or the rest of La Rioja.

Banks of the Ebro

By the river, the Casa de las Ciencias and the Ebro park offer flat walks between the Stone Bridge and the Iron Bridge. Across the Ebro there are century-old wineries you can visit without a car. Staying near the river gives you peace and views, with the old town still close at hand.
