Old town and La Herradura

Staying in the old town puts Plaza de la Paz, the town hall and the church of Santo Tomás a couple of steps away. At night you walk out to La Herradura, the streets of wine and pintxo bars just nearby, and stroll back without thinking about the car. It is the option for anyone coming to wander, eat well and visit wineries at a relaxed pace.

The streets in the centre are narrow and partly pedestrianised. If you arrive by car, ask beforehand where to leave it, because parking in the old town is difficult.

Best-rated in this area: Limehome Haro Calle de la Vega, with a score of 9.1 from 2,446 reviews.

Station Quarter

This is where the historic wineries are concentrated, one next to another, along with Haro's train station. Staying here makes sense if your plan is visits and tastings, or if you arrive by train and want to drop your bag as soon as you get off. There is less going on at night than in the centre, but walking up to La Herradura for dinner is a short stroll.

Best-rated in this area: Limehome Haro Calle de la Vega, with a score of 9.1 from 2,446 reviews.

Outskirts and road access

On the edges of town and along the approach roads there is accommodation with its own parking. It works well if you are touring Rioja Alta and heading off to a different village each morning. It is also convenient for families with lots of luggage who prefer to load the car at the door.

Briones and Casalarreina

If you want silence and vineyards all around, look at the neighbouring villages. Briones is a hilltop village above the Ebro, with stone houses and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture below. Casalarreina, to the south, revolves around the monastery of La Piedad and has a very slow pace. From either, it is a short drive into Haro for wineries and dinner.
