What to see in Kalambaka

Must-sees

Above Kalambaka rise the rocks of Meteora, stone pillars up to 400 metres high with Orthodox monasteries on top since the 14th century. Six are still inhabited and open to visitors: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St Nicholas, the Holy Trinity and St Stephen.

Each one closes one day a week, so check opening times first. Shoulders and knees must be covered (women are lent skirts). Sunsets from the viewpoints and the footpaths between the rocks are the other half of the visit.

Free tours and guided visits
