What to see in Skopelos

Must-sees

Skopelos is one of Greece’s greenest islands, covered in pines that run down to the sea. Its main town, an amphitheatre above the harbour, has over a hundred churches, slate-roofed houses and a Venetian castle on top.

The chapel of Agios Ioannis Kastri, on a rock with steps cut into it, became famous through «Mamma Mia!». The beaches of Kastani, Milia and Panormos, the village of Glossa and the monasteries of Mount Palouki complete the island.

Free tours and guided visits

Skopelos has boat trips around the island and to the Alonissos marine park, and guided tours of the «Mamma Mia!» filming locations.

How long to spend

Three days let you see the town, the chapel and a couple of beaches and take the boat. It is reached by ferry from Volos or Skiathos.

Where to stay

Skopelos Town is the most practical base. Glossa and the western beaches are quieter.
