What to see in Mykonos
Must-sees
Mykonos Chora is a maze of white lanes designed to confuse pirates. Its postcard sights are the Kato Mili windmills, Little Venice with its houses over the water and the church of Paraportiani, plus Petros the pelican strolling round the harbour.
Half an hour away by boat is Delos, the sacred island where Apollo was born according to myth, with one of the largest archaeological sites in Greece. The southern beaches, such as Psarou, Platis Gialos, Paraga and Paradise, are the famous ones, while the windier north has the wilder ones.
Free tours and guided visits
Mykonos has guided walks through Chora and, above all, guided trips to Delos, well worth it because there is little information on site. There are also boats to the southern beaches and trips to Rhenia.
How long to spend
Two or three days cover Chora, Delos and a couple of beaches. It is an expensive island in July and August: June and September are more enjoyable and cheaper.
Where to stay
In Chora everything is walkable, but it is noisy at night. Ornos and Agios Ioannis are quieter and family-friendly, and Platis Gialos and Psarou have the beach resorts.
