Staying near Temple Bar: what you need to know
What is Temple Bar?
Temple Bar is the cobbled quarter between the River Liffey and Dame Street in the centre of Dublin. It is famous for its pubs with live music, like the red-fronted Temple Bar itself, and also has galleries, a Saturday food market and the iron Haβpenny Bridge.
Getting around from here
Almost everything is walkable: Trinity College and the Book of Kells are five minutes away, Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral ten, and Grafton Street and St Stephenβs Green a quarter of an hour. The Guinness Storehouse is about 25 minutes on foot or a tram ride from Jervis.
When the hotels fill up
At weekends and on St Patrickβs Day, 17 March, hotels in the quarter fill up and prices rise sharply. Six Nations rugby weekends and big concerts are busy too. Weekdays and winter have more availability.
Which area to choose
In Temple Bar itself you sleep in the middle of the party, with music until late and plenty of noise. If you want to rest, hotels on Dame Street, College Green or across the river on Ormond Quay are two minutes away and quieter. Towards Grafton Street and St Stephenβs Green the feel is more upmarket.
If youβd rather be in the old town, see the hotels in Dublin city centre or our guide to the best areas to stay in Dublin.
