What the Rías Baixas are like
The Rías Baixas are the estuaries of southern Galicia: Muros and Noia, Arousa, Pontevedra and Vigo. They have calm water, white sandy beaches, seafood, Albariño wine and the Cíes Islands, in the Atlantic Islands National Park.
Which town to choose
Sanxenxo is the town with the most hotels and the liveliest summer scene, and A Toxa (La Toja) is an island with spa hotels. Cambados is the capital of Albariño, Combarro keeps its granaries by the sea and Baiona has its parador and the replica of the caravel Pinta. Vigo and Pontevedra are the city bases, with boats to the Cíes and Ons.
When to go
July and August are the sunniest months and the busiest, especially in Sanxenxo. The Albariño Festival in Cambados, in early August, also fills the area.
Getting around
Vigo and Santiago airports are the closest, and Vigo and Pontevedra have trains. You need a car to explore the estuaries and the beaches.
