Centre and harbour

Cangas is laid out around its fishing harbour and the Colexiata de Santiago. There are streets of taverns and seafood restaurants, a market and a seafront promenade facing the estuary. Boats cross to Vigo all year round from the quay and, in season, to the Cíes Islands.

If you plan to spend a day on the Cíes or cross to Vigo without a car, you can walk to the boat from here. At night there's life without leaving the centre.

Rodeira

Right next to the centre is Rodeira beach, wide, urban and with views of Vigo across the estuary. The apartment blocks around it suit families in summer: the sand is in front and the shops a short walk away.

Hío and Aldán

To the west, the Aldán inlet forms a smaller, more sheltered bay. Aldán has a fishing harbour and calm-water beaches, and in Hío, by the church, stands its famous carved stone cruceiro. Life here moves at village pace, with stone houses, vineyards and beaches such as Areabrava.

It works well for a restful stay with children or as a couple, always with a car, as public transport is limited.

Donón and Cabo Home

The tip of the Morrazo peninsula is the wildest part of the municipality. Donón is where the climb up Monte do Facho begins, with its hillfort and views of the Cíes, and nearby are the Cabo Home lighthouses and the beaches of Barra and Nerga, among dunes and pine woods. There's little accommodation, mostly rural houses and a campsite or two. You'll like it if you hike or want coves far from the city. For shopping or eating out, you'll usually drive down to Cangas or Aldán.
