Silgar and the centre

Silgar beach, with the Madama statue on a rock, is the image of Sanxenxo. Behind it are the promenade, the marina and the streets with the most restaurants and bars. This is where the summer buzz is, by day and night. In July and August it gets packed, so book early and do not count on parking outside. Panadeira beach, beside the marina, is another option for a swim without moving.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Carlos I Silgar, with a score of 9.3 from 3,331 reviews.

Portonovo

Portonovo keeps its fishing port and a more seafaring feel, with seafood taverns near the quay. Baltar beach is in the village itself and the smaller Caneliñas a stroll away. From the port you can take a boat to the island of Ons, in the Atlantic Islands National Park. Central Sanxenxo is a walk away along the coast.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Boutique Aquaria Caneliñas, with a score of 9.0 from 1,076 reviews.

Montalvo and A Lanzada

To the west, the coast opens into longer beaches exposed to the open sea. Montalvo has a pine wood behind the beach and a family holiday feel. Beyond it is A Lanzada, with its chapel on the headland and one of the longest beaches in Galicia, sought out by surfers and kitesurfers.

This part is for those who are mainly after the beach and have a car.

Best-rated in this area: Duerming Montalvo Playa Hotel, with a score of 8.3 from 474 reviews.

Raxó and the estuary shore

Towards Pontevedra, Raxó is a small village with a harbour and beaches of calm water, sheltered inside the estuary. There is less bustle than at Silgar and it is easy to find space on the sand. It suits families with young children and those who want to kayak or paddleboard on calm water. For a night out, central Sanxenxo is a short drive away.
