Where to stay in Combarro: the best areas

The historic centre

The Combarro of the hórreos is a granite maze by the shore, car-free and with few beds. Spending the night here is charming: late in the day, when the souvenir shops close, you can stroll among the cruceiros (stone crosses) and look out over the ría without the crowds. It is the choice for couples and for those who want to photograph the village in soft light at dawn.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring luggage that is easy to carry, because the ground is uneven and the car park is at the top.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Xeito, with a score of 8.9 from 766 reviews.

Upper Combarro

Above the old core runs the coast road, with homes, restaurants and places to stay overlooking the Ría de Pontevedra. Here you park easily and walk down to the old town in a few minutes. It suits families and those touring the Rías Baixas by car and moving on each day.

Poio and its monastery

The municipality of Poio stretches between Combarro and the bridge to Pontevedra. On the way is the monastery of San Xoán de Poio, which can be visited and has one of the longest hórreos in Galicia. The area is residential and quiet, with houses and small hotels looking onto the water and easy access towards O Grove, Sanxenxo or the island of A Toxa.

Pontevedra

Upriver, at the mouth of the Lérez, Pontevedra has the widest choice in the area. Its old town is pedestrianised and full of squares with terraces, such as Praza da Leña or Praza da Ferrería, and it has train and bus stations. It is the option if you arrive by public transport or want to combine Combarro with city nightlife. From here it is also easy to take the train to Vigo and Santiago.
