Staying near Amara: what you need to know

What is Amara?

Amara is the residential district south of central San Sebastián, beside the river Urumea, with Plaza Pío XII, Anoeta stadium and the sports area. It is quieter and a little cheaper than the centre.

Getting around from here

Amara Euskotren station, with trains to Hendaye and Bilbao, and several Dbus lines link it with the centre in about ten minutes. Walking along the riverside you reach La Concha in about 20 minutes.

When rooms are hardest to find

During Big Week in August, the Jazzaldia in July and the Film Festival in September, when San Sebastián fills up and prices soar; in summer you need to book well ahead.

Which area to choose

There are chain and business hotels, guesthouses and apartments, with prices below La Concha and good transport to the centre. This page looks up to 800 metres from Plaza Pío XII.
