What is the City of Arts and Sciences?

The City of Arts and Sciences is the group of buildings Santiago Calatrava designed in the old bed of the Turia river, in south-east Valencia, between 1998 and 2009: the Hemisfèric, the Science Museum, the Palau de les Arts, the Umbracle and the Àgora, now CaixaForum. At the far end is the Oceanogràfic, with roofs by Félix Candela, the largest aquarium in Europe. The Roig Arena opened next door in 2025.

How to get there

Metrovalencia line 10 stops at Ciutat Arts i Ciències-Justícia, and several EMT bus lines come from the centre. The nicest way to get there is to walk or cycle through the Turia Gardens: from the Serranos Towers it is about 4 km. Malvarrosa beach is about ten minutes away by car.

When rooms are hardest to find

During Las Fallas, 15 to 19 March, when all of Valencia fills up; in summer and at Easter, the Oceanogràfic’s busiest times; and on concert nights at the Roig Arena, right next door.

Which area to choose
