Staying near Old Trafford: what you need to know

What is Old Trafford?

Old Trafford is Manchester United’s ground, the “Theatre of Dreams”, with more than 74,000 seats, the largest club stadium in the UK. It has a museum and stadium tours. Ten minutes away is the cricket ground of the same name, which hosts Test matches and concerts.

Getting around from here

Metrolink trams reach central Manchester in about fifteen minutes, and the Eccles line, from Wharfside, runs past MediaCityUK and Salford Quays. Walking along the canal, the Quays and the Imperial War Museum North are about ten minutes away.

When the hotels fill up

On United match days and big concert nights the hotels next to the stadium fill up and prices rise sharply. If you cannot find a room, central Manchester has far more hotels and is a short tram ride away.

Which area to choose

Next to the stadium there are a couple of hotels overlooking the pitch. Salford Quays and MediaCityUK, ten to fifteen minutes’ walk away, have modern waterside hotels. Central Manchester, about 3 km away, has the widest choice and the nightlife.
