Historic centre and Calle Corredera

The lower part of the old town holds nearly everything you will see. Plaza de España, presided over by the collegiate church of San Patricio, also brings together the town hall and the Pósito granary. Very close are the Guevara Palace and the headquarters where the Paso Blanco and Paso Azul brotherhoods display their Holy Week embroidery.

Calle Corredera is the shopping and strolling street, with shops and cafés. The surrounding streets have bars and restaurants for lunch and dinner without moving the car. It is the logical choice for a short stay, and in Holy Week you will be next to the processions.

Best-rated in this area: Edificio Galerias, with a score of 9.3 from 73 reviews.

The upper quarters and the castle

Above the centre, the upper quarters climb the hillside towards the Fortress of the Sun. They are narrow, steep streets with low houses and views of the Guadalentín plain. At the top, inside the castle grounds, there is accommodation overlooking the whole city.

Choose this area if you want silence and scenery and don’t mind slopes. To go down to the centre for dinner you will need good legs or a car.

San Cristóbal

Across the Guadalentín riverbed lies San Cristóbal, one of Lorca’s most characterful districts. It is a residential area, with old-fashioned bars and neighbourhood shops. It is close to the centre across the bridge and suits you if you prefer a local, less touristy feel.

Avenida Juan Carlos I and Sutullena

The modern part is laid out around Avenida Juan Carlos I, a wide avenue full of shops. Nearby is Lorca-Sutullena station, with commuter trains to Murcia and Águilas. It is a flat area, with wider streets and easier parking, suited to business travellers or anyone using Lorca as a base for the coast.

Best-rated in this area: Edificio Galerias, with a score of 9.3 from 73 reviews.
