Puerto de Mazarrón
Almost all summer life is concentrated in Puerto de Mazarrón. Here are the fishing harbour and marina, the promenade and town beaches such as La Reya and El Rihuete, within walking distance. There are supermarkets, ice-cream parlours, rice and fish restaurants and plenty going on at night in July and August.
If you do not want to depend on the car, this is your area: the sea is in front of you, and the Phoenician ship museum and the diving and kayak trips are all in the port itself.
Bolnuevo
A few kilometres west, Bolnuevo is a smaller coastal village with a wide beach and the sandstone erosions next to it. It is a place of apartments, campsites and families who come back every year. Beyond it begins a coast of undeveloped coves, ideal if you like walking with your towel over your shoulder. The Puerto is a short drive away.

El Alamillo
To the east, following the bay, is El Alamillo, a residential area with a sandy beach and a seafront walk. It has apartment blocks and developments, with fewer bars than the Puerto and a slower pace. It suits anyone looking for a quiet beach and stays of several days with a kitchen. From here the promenade takes you on foot to the centre of the Puerto in summer, when an evening out in the breeze is tempting.

Mazarrón town
The historic core lies inland, surrounded by hills coloured by the old mines. Here you have the church of San Andrés, the town hall and what is left of the Vélez castle, plus shops and local bars. Staying in town gives you a more local atmosphere and everything is open out of season, but you will have to take the car or bus down to the beach every day.
