Historic centre and the cathedral

If it is your first time in Murcia, look between Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, Trapería and Platería. There you have the cathedral, the Real Casino, the Romea theatre and Plaza de Santo Domingo, all on pedestrian streets. Plaza de las Flores and Plaza de San Juan are packed with tapas bars, so eating out is very easy. It is the area for doing everything on foot. The Segura river, with its walk along the Malecón, is also very close.

Best-rated in this area: Hesperia Murcia Centro, with a score of 9.0 from 12,681 reviews.

Gran Vía and Alfonso X el Sabio

The Gran Vía crosses the centre from north to south and is full of shops and offices. Further up, Avenida de Alfonso X el Sabio, with its tree-lined walk, leads to Plaza Circular. It is a convenient area for business trips and short stays, with good bus connections and the old town a short walk away. If you come by car, it is easier to find public car parks here.

Best-rated in this area: Sercotel Amistad Murcia, with a score of 8.7 from 6,015 reviews.

El Carmen and the station

Across the Segura river, El Carmen is an everyday neighbourhood, with a market, terraces and the Floridablanca garden. The Old Bridge links it with the centre, and El Carmen train station is in the neighbourhood. It is practical if you arrive by train and want to stay near the centre without paying for the most touristy area. From the station you can walk to the cathedral in an easy, flat stroll across the river.

Best-rated in this area: Catalonia Conde de Floridablanca, with a score of 8.8 from 3,842 reviews.

Avenida Juan Carlos I

To the north, Avenida Juan Carlos I has office buildings, shopping centres and new residential areas. The tram runs along it, linking it with Plaza Circular, the Espinardo campus and the Nueva Condomina area. It makes sense if you come on business or to the university, or if you prefer easy parking and getting around the region by car.
