Where to stay in Vera: the best areas

Vera Playa

Vera’s coast, a few kilometres from the town, is a long run of low-rise developments and apartment complexes with shared areas facing a coarse-sand beach. The sea is usually calm and the promenade is flat, easy with pushchairs or bikes. It is the area chosen by families and those coming to rest for several days in a row.

One stretch of this coast is reserved for naturism, with its own developments and accommodation where it is also practised away from the beach. If that is not what you are after, check the location carefully before booking.

Puerto Rey

At the southern end of Vera’s coast, next to Garrucha, Puerto Rey has newer developments and apartments with shared areas. It feels residential and quiet, with a few beach restaurants. It is well placed for alternating beach days with visits to Garrucha and Mojácar.

Vera town

The town is a few kilometres inland, on the plain. On the Plaza Mayor stands the fortress-like church of La Encarnación, next to the town hall, and not far away is the bullring, one of the oldest in the province. Here you will find simple accommodation, shops and bars frequented by locals. It is useful for those arriving on the A-7 who want to explore the Almería Levante, always with a car.

Garrucha

Right next to Vera to the south, Garrucha is a fishing town with a working port, a fish market and a promenade full of restaurants. It is famous for its red prawns. Sleeping here makes sense if you like fresh fish and a stroll by the boats in the evening. Its town beach, beside the promenade, is another good option for a swim.
