Lo Pagán

Lo Pagán is San Pedro’s seaside district on the shore of the Mar Menor. It has a promenade, beaches with calm, shallow water and lots of terraces serving rice dishes and fish. At the end of the promenade are the mud pools, where people coat themselves and then rinse off in the water. It is the area for families with young children and for anyone coming for the mud.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Alaska, with a score of 8.8 from 962 reviews.

The salt flats and La Llana beach

The Salinas y Arenales Regional Park separates the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean. On the open-sea side are La Llana beach and other dune beaches with no buildings, and flamingos can be seen among the salt pans. There is hardly any accommodation inside the park, but there is some on its edges, near the port. It suits nature lovers, cyclists and birdwatchers. Take water and sun protection, as there is very little shade in the park.

Central San Pedro

The town itself sits a little inland, around Plaza Luis Molina and the Palacio del Barón de Benifayó. This is where you will find the shops, the market and everyday local life. Outside summer it keeps its usual pace. It suits you if you want a local feel and don’t mind taking the car or a bike to the beach.

Best-rated in this area: HomeXperience, with a score of 9.6 from 24 reviews.

Santiago de la Ribera

Right next to Lo Pagán, but in the municipality of San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera has a long promenade along the Mar Menor with jetties and wooden bathing piers. There are sailing and water sports schools, as the calm water is perfect for learning. It suits anyone wanting more restaurants and bars close at hand, on the same gentle sea. You can walk or cycle along the promenade to Lo Pagán.
