Zugarramurdi is small: a square, the church, the witches' museum and stone mansions with balconies. Places to stay are rural cottages and the odd family-run hotel, almost all with few rooms. Staying here lets you see the cave first thing in the morning or at the end of the day, once the coach parties have gone.
Urdax / Urdazubi
A few kilometres away, Urdax has the monastery of San Salvador, the mill and the Ikaburu cave. There is a larger hotel or two and rural cottages by the river. It is a good alternative if Zugarramurdi is full, and it lies halfway to Elizondo.
