Where to stay in Sos del Rey Católico: the best areas
Old town
Spending the night inside the walled town is the loveliest way to get to know Sos. The rural cottages and small guesthouses occupy stone mansions with coats of arms and wooden beams, a few metres from Plaza de la Villa, the Sada palace and the church of San Esteban. Early in the morning and at night the streets are empty and you can wander without groups.
Bear in mind that hardly any cars circulate inside, and the cobbles climb steeply towards the Peña Feliciana. Travel light or ask your host how to get there with suitcases.
Best-rated in this area: El Peiron, with a score of 9.3 from 1,100 reviews.
Village entrance and the road
In the lower part, by the road and the car parks, are the places to stay with car access to the door. It is a convenient solution for families with young children or people with reduced mobility, as you avoid carrying bags up the slopes. The old town is right above and a short walk up. Nearby are the bars and shops that open for visitors, and the viewpoints from which the town is silhouetted on its hill at sunset.
Cinco Villas countryside
Around Sos there are farmhouses and isolated houses among cereal fields and hills, perfect for anyone after total silence and clear skies. From here it is an easy drive to Uncastillo, Sádaba and the rest of the Cinco Villas, or into Navarre to see the Leyre monastery or Javier castle.
Sangüesa
Over the border in Navarre, Sangüesa is a larger town, with more shops, supermarkets and restaurants, and the church of Santa María la Real. It is handy if you need services or plan to combine Sos with the Lumbier gorge and the Navarrese Pyrenees. Its flat streets are also comfortable for anyone preferring to avoid climbs.
