Staying near the Cathedral: what you need to know
What is Seville Cathedral?
Seville Cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It was begun in 1401 on the site of the Almohad mosque, from which it keeps the Courtyard of the Orange Trees and the Giralda, the former minaret topped with a Renaissance bell tower. Inside is the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Together with the Royal Alcázar and the Archive of the Indies it is a World Heritage Site.
How to get there
The tram stops at Archivo de Indias, next to the Cathedral, and Puerta de Jerez (metro line 1) is five minutes’ walk away. Santa Justa, the high-speed train station, is about 20 minutes by bus or taxi.
When rooms are hardest to find
During Holy Week and the April Fair, when the whole of Seville fills up and prices multiply: the official route of the processions passes through the Cathedral. Also in spring, at Christmas and on long weekends.
Which area to choose
Around the Cathedral there are boutique and luxury hotels, some with rooftop terraces facing the Giralda, as well as guesthouses and apartments in Santa Cruz and El Arenal. The whole centre is walkable. This page looks up to 500 metres from the Cathedral.
