Centre and Calle San Miguel

Calle San Miguel, pedestrianised and full of shops, is the backbone of the centre. The local train station is here, with direct trains to Málaga, the airport and Fuengirola, so it is the most practical area if you don't have a car. There are supermarkets, cafés and all kinds of services. At night the bars around La Nogalera are fairly lively.

At the end of the street, steps and slopes lead down to Bajondillo beach.

El Bajondillo and Playamar

Below the centre stretch the Bajondillo and Playamar beaches, joined by the promenade. It is the favourite area for families: wide sand, beach bars and buildings facing the sea. The centre is a short walk away, though the climb is steep. If you want a beach without relying on a car, this is a good choice. The promenade is flat and easy with a pushchair or a bike.

La Carihuela

Above La Carihuela is Montemar, a residential area with its own local train stop.

At the eastern end, near the border with Málaga, Los Álamos beach has beach bars and clubs with music in summer. An option for those who want a wide beach and nightlife by the sea. Los Álamos local train station connects you with Málaga and the airport in no time, though the centre is a fair walk away. It is a more modern area, with wide streets and good road access, convenient if you are driving.
