Central Cascais

The old town surrounds the bay and Fishermen's Beach. Here are the railway station, the citadel, the marina and almost all the restaurants. You can do everything on foot, and the train line to Lisbon leaves from the centre itself.

In summer the pedestrian streets are lively until late; places to stay a little further out, towards the citadel or the Santa Marta district, are quieter.

Best-rated in this area: Casa Vela Boutique House & SPA, with a score of 9.4 from 2,231 reviews.

Monte Estoril

Between Cascais and Estoril, Monte Estoril combines old villas, hotels with sea views and small beaches along the seafront promenade. It has its own railway station, and you can walk to Cascais along the promenade in about twenty minutes.

Best-rated in this area: Hotel Cascais Miragem Health & Spa, with a score of 9.4 from 1,406 reviews.

Estoril

Estoril grew up around its casino and gardens, and keeps large historic hotels facing the sea. Tamariz beach and the railway station are next to the gardens. It is a quiet area, with many repeat guests and easy access to Lisbon.

Guincho and Areia

To the west, the coast opens out at Guincho beach, with dunes, wind and surf. There are few places to stay, some facing the sea, and Cabo da Roca and Sintra are close by. You need a car, and should expect the wind, which blows hard for much of the year.
