Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila

The capital is the most complete base if you don't want to rely on a car. From here you can walk up to Dalt Vila, explore the Marina quarter and the Vara de Rey promenade, and find restaurants and shops on every street. Boats to Formentera leave from the port, so it is the logical choice if you plan that trip. Buses to the island's villages also leave from here.

Best-rated in this area: Eurostars Puerto de Ibiza, with a score of 8.5 from 3,948 reviews.

Talamanca, Figueretes and Playa d'en Bossa

If you want a beach without leaving town, look at these three areas. Talamanca is a bay with calm water, good with children. Figueretes is right next to the centre and you can walk to Dalt Vila. Playa d'en Bossa is a long beach with a big party scene and is close to the airport.

Best-rated in this area: Lux Isla, with a score of 9.2 from 2,193 reviews.

Sant Antoni de Portmany

On the west coast, Sant Antoni mainly attracts young people looking for bars and nightlife. Its seafront fills up in the evening to watch the sunset. If you prefer something calmer without going far, nearby coves include Cala GraciΓ³ and CalΓ³ des Moro. Outside summer the town changes completely and becomes much quieter.

Santa EulΓ ria des Riu

This is the choice of many families and of those wanting to relax. It has a pleasant promenade, a town beach and a wide but low-key range of restaurants. It is worth climbing the Puig de Missa, the hill with the white church that overlooks the town.

The north, Sant Joan and Portinatx

The north is the greenest and least developed part of the island. Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent have coves with very clear water, and Sant Joan de Labritja is a small village with a slow pace. A car is almost essential here, as distances and bus timetables are limiting.
