Staying near the Opéra: what you need to know

What is the Palais Garnier?

It is the opera and ballet house Charles Garnier completed in 1875, in the 9th arrondissement. Around it are the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps department stores, Boulevard Haussmann and lots of offices, making it one of the areas with the most hotels in Paris.

Getting there

Opéra has metro lines 3, 7 and 8, and Auber the RER A, which runs direct to Disneyland and La Défense. The Roissybus to Charles de Gaulle airport leaves from Rue Scribe, next to the theatre.

When rooms are hardest to find

In spring, in summer, at Christmas, when the department stores are packed, and during the fashion weeks. On weekdays there is a lot of business travel.

Which area to choose

Next to the theatre and on Boulevard Haussmann are the big hotels. Towards Saint-Lazare and the 9th arrondissement there are smaller, slightly cheaper hotels with just as many metro lines.
