Staying near Notre-Dame: what you need to know

What is Notre-Dame?

The Gothic cathedral on the Île de la Cité, reopened in December 2024 after the 2019 fire, is France’s point zero. It is surrounded by the Seine, the Sainte-Chapelle and the Latin Quarter.

Getting there

Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame has the RER B, which runs direct to Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports (with the Orlyval), and the RER C. Metro line 4 stops at Cité and Saint-Michel.

When rooms are hardest to find

In summer, at Christmas and on long weekends. Since the reopening, the area is busy with visitors again, and there are very few hotels on the island.

Which area to choose

The Latin Quarter, on the Left Bank, has lots of small hotels at a range of prices. The Île Saint-Louis, just behind the cathedral, is very quiet. The Marais, on the Right Bank, is about a 10-minute walk away.
